The History
About half a year before this site was created, I loaned my favorite copy of Alice in Wonderand to a friend of mine. At the time, I didn't know who the illustrator was. It was an ex-library copy in pretty rough shape, and there was no name listed for the illustrator. The original plan was for him to scan the images and give the book back. However, he eventually lost his scanner about the same time I acquired one. I asked him if he'd bring the book back to me, and he set it aside in a bag to do so. While cleaning, his roommates threw the bag away. Needless to say, I was very upset. I went online to try to find out who the illustrator was and acquire another copy of the book. I was astonished by the lack of larger, higher-quality scans of any of the images from the books. One would think that books this popular would have pictures aplenty on the internet! I did discover that the illustrator was Maraja, and I did order another copy of the book. However, an idea came to mind, that I could use my scanner and design a website to share these images with the public. So I did.
